The 2006 Association of Contingency Planners
Fourth Annual Symposium
SAVE THE DATE!

Are You Ready for the Big One?
Planning in the Face of a Pandemic or Disaster
Sponsored by the
District of Columbia and Mid-Atlantic ACP Chapter
George Washington University
Marvin Center Continental Ballroom
What are we doing to prepare? ... Can we afford to wait?
Leaders from government and health organizations claim that the
avian flu is inevitable and poses a global threat of 150M deaths worldwide --
much greater in magnitude than even the tsunami that occurred in Southeast
Asia. What can we as contingency planners and managers be doing to manage
an impact like this or any other catastrophe of such global proportion? Will we
be resilient enough to bounce back even in the most extreme circumstances?
Whether you're from the government or private sector, this hot button topic
applies to you.
Experts and officials in areas of public health, law enforcement, government
(international, federal, state, local), IT, and businesses will come together to
present their insights on key issues. The ACP Symposium will also provide
lessons learned, best practices and valuable takeaways on strategies to
strengthen collaboration across public and private sectors. Attendees will
then participate in a real-world scenario tabletop exercise in the afternoon.
Panel discussions will include these topics:
What is the avian influenza, what are the risks, and should we really be concerned?
What mitigation plans exist within the government and private industry to deal with
pandemic indicators?
How do we protect our business and government interests overseas (i.e., outsourcing
and supply chain management)?
What have we learned from the Katrina event and how do we plan to improve overall
planning and maximize our ability to prepare our businesses?
How do we successfully collaborate among all sectors, i.e., international, federal, state,
local, and public and private?
What innovations in IT/telecoms such as teleworking or WiMax can be maximized during
a pandemic and minimize disruption to our critical workforce, assuming we experience a
high proportion of absenteeism?
